Tony is no stranger to London but he successfully finds the stranger parts of the city in his short Layover. Along the way he picks up a taxidermy treat from a very curious shop, visits his favourite hidden dive bar known only to its eccentric members and wakes up covered in last night’s street food. In this episode of The Layover, Tony travels to London, England to catch up with old chef friends Marco Pierre White and Fergus Henderson.
This episode is full of hilarity, as Tony takes in South Beach Art Deco architecture and then spots some bikini clad rollerblading while cruising in his convertible (Miami Vice style) but it’s also poignant and enticing as it reveals what the less touristy, local Cuban and Caribbean neighborhoods have to offer that make up a large part of this sprawling melting pot of a city. We feel like we’re along for the ride with him in his red corvette that he loves, ‘in a one night stand kind of way’. In this episode, Tony finds himself on a Layover in Miami, one of his favorite American cities. Along the way Tony sees firsthand how intrinsic the local environment is to a Montrealer’s food and fun. Good chef friends like Martin Picard and Dave McMillian expose Tony to the wild, exciting and proud culture of Montreal. It is a buttoned up frozen place for much of the year but during the few months of warm weather the city lets loose. Halfway through his whirlwind tour, Tony joins in the Hong Kongers habit of falling asleep all over the place and is found passed out on a ferry ride back to the mainland - and we feel how the power of jet lag, coupled with the heat, and the endless energy pervading this city, can make you need a nap wherever you can get it. After finding a 24-hour tailor to make him a sharkskin ‘gangster inspired suit’, he takes every type of public transit that exists in this town, and truly does ‘see’ the city like a local would. Sweltering heat, oppressive smog, and intermittent rain, add some sardonic twists to Tony’s travels to the Far East. In this episode Tony finds himself on a Layover in the fast paced city and fascinating city of Hong Kong…in the middle of summer. Along the way Tony’s friends show him a hyper modern city of glass skyscrapers that still manages to hold its roots around the simple and excellent food of hawker centers. Tony goes on a 24-hour journey tasting, trying and experiencing everything Singapore has to offer. The city is a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities that all come together over a national obsession for food. After doing so, “ you’ll be rewarded with a feel-good surprise. In this episode of The Layover, Tony finds himself in Singapore.

Find out what we received this time for saying the secret password!įor those of you staying with Kimpton over the next few months, you’re in luck- a new secret password has been tweeted out that, “ OUR WINTER SOCIAL PASSWORD IS HERE!”
In the winter of 2020 we stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia.
(Since then, the hotel did correct the issue…) While there was no secret password during this time, I did receive a very confusing welcome gift.
I used my last uncapped IHG Anniversary Free Night to cover the stay. In April 2019, the Michael W Travels family stayed at the Kimpton Eventi New York City. Since this stay I’ve been wanting to stay with Kimpton Hotels again. Due to this, we ordered room service at a hotel for the first time! (BTW- We booked a stay at the hotel thanks to my IHG Anniversary Free Night.)ĭuring our Kimpton stay, we received a jerky IHG Rewards Club Elite Benefit. Check out my review of the Kimpton Monaco Philadelphia here. A few years back, we stayed with the Kimpton Hotels chain for the first time.
